Addiction is also America’s most misunderstood disease. Instead of being seen as a chronic condition of the brain, addiction is considered a choice or moral failing. While those suffering from other diseases receive support, addicts are shamed. This double standard keeps addiction hidden, prevents recovery and makes relapse more likely. We created online films designed to stop the shame and start a conversation by using the words people say to addicts but delivered to Cancer and Parkinson’s patients.
